They are supposed to be our allies in this fight. They are supposed to respect and adore and honor us. And yet we find ourselves begging for love and wishing they would care for us. It isn’t right. Love is supposed to be unconditional and yet love from black men is nothing but conditions; they love us IF we look a certain way. They love us IF we act a certain way. That’s not love. And it’s unfortunate that after all this time, in this day and age we still have to ask “why don’t black men love us?””
